Serving Up Math Skills

This week 5th grade students at Cornelia Elementary practiced multiplying and dividing fractions while learning about the basics of working in a kitchen.  Students made a “confetti salad” with apples, carrots, raisins, and a citrus honey dressing.  After using fractions to adjust the recipe to serve the whole class, students practiced knife skills, kitchen hygiene, using a food processor and grater, and using wet and dry measuring cups. A real-world, edible application of math skills? A farm to school success!
